Best Time to Get a Deal on a Gym Membership

Is getting in shape on your list of New Year’s resolutions?

Did you know that the week between Christmas and New Year’s is one of the busiest times of the year at gyms and health clubs!? The best gym deals take place in December, when gyms are counting on people to make good on their New Year resolutions.  Obviously, the whole month of January is pretty happening, but this week is surprisingly busy as well.  Maybe it is because people have some time off from work, maybe they have some time to think about themselves, or maybe they just want to get a jump start on those New Year’s resolutions.  Whatever the case may be, if you are thinking about joining a gym, here are a few things to keep in mind!

Before you sign on: Tips

1.         Determine your wants and needs:
             A. Figure out how much you can budget towards a gym membership fees.
             B. Second, decide what features you need
2.         Do your homework: Visit multiple gyms in your area
3.         Do a test run: Ask to attend some classes for free or for a complimentary week pass4
4.         Always ask if there is flexibility on the enrollment fee
5.         NEVER, ever pay a joining, membership, or processing fee

I learned over the years that most gyms fail if they don’t have trained sales people that are experts on finding your hot buttons and pouring on the pain of your guilt about being out of shape. Many of them will even try to push you past, or breeze by the contract (or conveniently not show you back of a contract) so that you sign quickly and perhaps you won’t notice all the rights you are signing away. Even month-to-month contracts can be manipulated to actually extract an automatic 3 or 4 months from you if you aren’t careful. This would automatically cost you $120 to $200.

Find a good gym and motivation grab your sneakers and make good on those New Year’s resolutions to lose weight and get fit. Good Luck
