Fall Fitness Tips

EID MUBARAK !  Hope everyone had an amazing and blessed Eid with love ones!

 Fall Fitness Tips:

Let’s face it many holiday traditions seem to center on food, it can be difficult to get through the holiday season without feeling as stuffed. And with the days growing shorter and the weather turning colder, it’s getting harder and harder to keep up good exercise habits. Here are tips to help keep you active and feeling fit during fall & winter.

Plan events – Take advantage of the walk for awareness that’s going on this season breast Cancer, Autism, American Lung Association… etc you’re not only walking to support a good cause but also benefit to your health.

Enjoy the scenery – Biking, hiking and jogging outdoors are great during the fall and will allow you to enjoy the weather before winter hits. Just remember to dress in layers and wear reflective clothing, as it gets cold and dark early.

Hit the gym – To supplement your outdoor activity, consider going to the gym. Alternating between outdoor and indoor exercise will keep your workout fresh and, if you live in a colder climate, prepare you for a winter of indoor exercise.

Make exercise social – The best way to stick to your workout is to find a buddy with similar workout goals. You can motivate each other, whether indoors or out.

Fall Veggie Salad

During the summer and spring months, generally my cravings lean more towards the lighter and brighter side of things, for things like salads, rice and anything grilled. When September hits and the fall weather starts kicking in, I start moving towards warm soups, oatmeal, everything pumpkin and of course all of those lovely fall vegetables!

Butternut squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, parsnips, asparagus and pear!
Ok, so pears aren’t a vegetable, but they’re a fall fruit, and who’s counting anyways? I currently have a ton of pears in our house right now, because not only are they way cheaper than apples but they’re actually amazing,  yummy tasting.

Anyways, last night I chopped all this stuff up and ended up with something that looked this:

Throw in some onion and toss it all in a little olive oil, salt, pepper and rosemary! It’s the perfect fall dish. It takes about 45min to roast, but it’s well worth the wait, and during that time you can prepare the rest of your meal, do homework, do a mini at-home workout…. The possibilities are endless!

It can be a main dish with some feta cheese crumbled on top or a side dish at your dinner, just a regular meal at home!

Fall is in the air! Fall is finally starting to move in.  In fact, this week I saw a lot people wearing a long-sleeve shirt since the spring! , Good bye, summer!
But as sad as I am to say farewell to the warm temperatures and long sunny days, not everything about the coming of fall is bad!  I actually have many things to be excited about my favorite season. (Come winter, though, I’ll be singing a different tune!)
Fall is great for a number of reasons: Pumpkins and Squash are suuuper cheap! Starbuck’s Pumpkin Spice Latte! And of course who doesn’t love the satisfying crunch of leaves under your feet?
This is also the time of year when many of us are heading back to school, or at least settling back into a more consistent routine, which makes it the perfect time to begin some good new habits!  Think of it as an early new-year’s resolution
For me, since I’m not in school and it just work. The only thing that changes is regimented workout routine. Fall I work out at 6:00 am, which I actually like because I no longer have to think about scheduling workouts in- that part’s already done for me!
The big change I notice this time of year is meal patterns.  More specifically, planning and making meals has to be much more pre-planned.  This holds true particularly on Monday- Friday, when it’s long work week.  That means that I have to pack a health lunch along with some snacks.
My new routine is to prep lunch at night so I’m not running around in the morning. Yes, I could just eat out, but it’s so expensive, and usually not as healthy as what I could make at home and as delicious 🙂
My workout/ Gym tips: All gyms are not created equal. Choosing a gym that’s right for you
Match your goals:
·    A gym that specializes in lots of muscle sculpting equipment isn’t going to help much if you are trying to lose weight and start a cardio program.

Before signing a contract, seriously consider your fitness goals and what services you need to achieve them.

Location, money, time:
The best gyms in the world aren’t going to help you if they are too out-of-the-way for to you to travel to them regularly. Find a gym that is both convenient and affordable for you will go a long way towards helping you meet your fitness goals.
Shop around—Take advantage of day passes and what each gym has to offer before making a final decision.
